Bismuth and Non-bismuth Quadruple Therapy for Helicobacter pylori Eradication: Time to Make the Switch in Clinical Practice?

We read the Toronto Consensus Report for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori by Fallone et al1 published in Gastroenterology with great interest. There are several differences in the recommendations between the Toronto Consensus and the Maastricht IV Consensus Reports (Table 1).1,2 We fully agreed with their viewpoint that “it is best to achieve the maximum cure rates from the start” and the recommendation of 14-day duration for all regimens. The experts recommended “traditional bismuth quadruple therapy” or “concomitant non-bismuth quadruple therapy” as the options for first-line therapy.
