Reducing the Burden of Colorectal Cancer: AGA Position Statements

The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) is strongly committed to reducing the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). There is strong evidence that CRC screening is effective (US Preventive Services Task Force [USPSTF]), but <70% of eligible individuals have been screened.1 In 2021, the USPSTF2 recommended that individuals aged 45–49 years be considered for screening (Grade B recommendation), creating a new, eligible, unscreened cohort. Elimination of barriers to CRC screening will improve adherence and reduce the burden of CRC.
