A Rare Submucosal Tumor of the Esophagus

Question: An asymptomatic 66-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for further evaluation of a lower esophageal tumor discovered by upper endoscopy during a health checkup. The patient had multiple medical issues, including hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and had undergone appendectomy 49 years previously for appendicitis and cholecystectomy 33 years previously for cholelithiasis.
