The Microbiome Modifies the Effect of Diet on Colorectal Cancer Incidence

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most common types of cancer in the world. To the many factors that in combination contribute to CRC tumor formation, bacterial components of the microbiome are now part of this conversation. Indeed, during the past 2 decades, there has been a mounting body of literature demonstrating that gut microbiota can alter CRC susceptibility and progression by modulating several mechanisms, including inflammation and DNA damage, as well as in the production of metabolites implicated in tumor progression or suppression.
