The Julius Friedenwald Medal honors an individual who has made lifelong contributions to the field of gastroenterology and contributed significantly to the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). This is the highest honor bestowed by the AGA, and we know of no one more deserving of this distinction than Loren Laine, the 2018 awardee. Over the last 3 decades, we have witnessed his outstanding service to the AGA and, more importantly, have benefited from his numerous contributions to the field of gastroenterology.
