Website Review: Review of Patient-oriented Websites on Barrett’s Esophagus

Barrett’s esophagus is a well-established, premalignant condition for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), a cancer that has seen a dramatic rise in incidence in the Western population. Despite all the advances in this field, EAC continues to have a dismal 5-year survival rate. Screening individuals at risk for Barrett’s esophagus and EAC followed by surveillance in patients diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus is a practice endorsed by all gastroenterology societies. There has been a paradigm shift in the management of Barrett’s esophagus-related dysplasia (high-grade dysplasia and low-grade dysplasia) and intramucosal cancer with the use of endoscopic eradication therapies (EET) compared with surgery.
