More than 3.3 million outpatient colonoscopies are performed annually in the United States. Successful evaluation relies on patient adherence to bowel preparation. Failure of adequate bowel evacuation results in reduced cecal intubation rates, decreased polyp detection rates, and need for repeated procedures. Text messaging (TM) is a common communication modality for relaying information. Multiple reviews have shown that TM reminders have had a positive impact on patient appointment attendance, adherence to chronic medication, and patient self-management.
