This article explains the current project underway to get robots to organize themselves as small groups to accomplish tasks. This requires a new level of communication that might stem out of self awareness or at the very least, Darwinian selection, an uncanny phenomenon for something that is not even alive. Maybe this is the first step for robots to have tangible relationships, such as that between the social web of androids in both the Blade Runner and the novel.
