I chose Las Vegas as an example of the hyperreal in our reality. Like Disney World or Disneyland, Las Vegas is a city or community that was created for the fantastical. It’s over the top aesthetics and out of this world entertainment create an illusion of a magical city. The lines between reality and fiction become blurred. For example, we have all heard stories of people going into one of the casinos in Las Vegas, and coming out three days later only to realize that they thought they had only been in the casino for a few hours. Las Vegas plays on people’s desires in order to create a new world that individuals can come to think of as real.
