Second Life, for me, was disappointing. Although there were opportunities for modifying the appearance of characters, there were not many creative or representative options. What if I wanted to create a character that was short or had a larger frame? All of the options were tall, skinny, caucasian people. This does not represent the vast diversity of human beings. Additionally, it was surprisingly realistic for a fantasy world. For all of the combinations and permutations of reality that can be fabricated from the human imagination, it was extremely dry and devoid of options. The only fun/fantasy costumes and characters were related to upcoming western holidays. The locations were very simple, and the system overall was not user friendly.
