Hyperreal in Social Media

Hyperreality is tied up in the notion of the inability of consciousness to distinguish between reality and the simulation of reality. We also see in the definition of hyperreal, the repeated copy and simulation of a simulation and so on, we see in facebook being built off of previous modes of social media before it, as instagram is a representation of facebook that is slightly distorted and changed, and facebook of myspace, and twitter. There is no origin in reality, as they start from forums and chats which no longer begin to wholly resemble human interaction in objective reality. People begin to react and socialize in the origins of social media, as they “stalk” other people building a sense of who that person is based on their comments, posts and photos. We become “friends” on facebook with someone before we actually create a mutually connect relationship of genuine friendship. We know who is going to be at an “event” on facebook before the actual physical event itself. This is the precession of the simulacrum.
