{"id":254,"date":"2016-03-15T20:04:04","date_gmt":"2016-03-16T01:04:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beyondthemove.wordpress.com\/?p=246"},"modified":"2016-03-15T20:04:04","modified_gmt":"2016-03-16T01:04:04","slug":"hawking-radiation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/sced3890pedagogy\/2016\/03\/hawking-radiation\/","title":{"rendered":"hawking radiation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>on my flight back from amsterdam at the end of spring break, i finally had the opportunity and wherewithal to watch <em>the theory of everything<\/em>,\u00a0the stephen hawking biopic from a couple of years ago. it got me thinking about a lot of things from my physics education in high school and more recently my pursuit of an undergraduate physics degree. i remembered in 10th grade my physics teacher talking about uniting all the forces in the universe in one &#8220;beautiful, elegant&#8221; equation which would\u00a0provide a grand unifying framework for all of physics in the universe. pretty lofty stuff.<\/p>\n<figure data-shortcode=\"caption\" id=\"attachment_260\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-260 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondthemove.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/03\/800px-bh_lmc.png?w=604\" alt=\"800px-BH_LMC\"   \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/5\/5e\/BH_LMC.png\">what goes in and what comes out?<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>in the movie we learn (albeit very minimally) about hawking radiation, the theoretical model of which hawking developed in 1976. so what is it?
