Microsoft Launches New DreamSpark Program
Microsoft has changed its DreamSpark Program. The original program provided college students with free access to Microsoft development and design products.
The new program is subscription based. Institutions can buy a one or three-year subscription to DreamSpark or DreamSpark Premium. DreamSpark Premium replaces the MSDN-Academic Alliance program. Visit https://www.dreamspark.com/Institution/CompareSubscription.aspx for a comparison between the two options. DreamSpark Premium is restricted to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) departments.
ITS has purchased an institutional subscription to DreamSpark for the campus community. Benefits include:
• Campus-wide access by students, faculty, and IT staff
• Perpetual use rights to:
– Windows Server
– Visual Studio Professional
– Expression
– Windows Embedded
– SQL Server
Faculty, students, and IT staff may use the software:
• To develop, support, conduct, or take courses, labs, or programs offered by Vanderbilt
• In non-commercial research on behalf of Vanderbilt
• To design, develop, test, and demonstrate software programs for the two purposes listed above
Students who receive the software through a DreamSpark subscription may continue to use the software for the purposes listed above after they graduate.
Students, faculty and IT staff can download DreamSpark products through the Vanderbilt Software Store by visiting http://vanderbilt.onthehub.com and clicking the DreamSpark tab.
