SSMV Students Continue on a Winning Streak

Last month, three SSMV students won first place prizes including cash awards at the Middle Tennessee Science and Engineering Fair. Congratulations  to sophomores Jenni, Saba, and Xiyua for their project, “Sequencing the GAPDH Gene in the Invasive Species Hedera helix and Ligustrum sinense to Map Phylogenetic Relationships”

Senior Michelle Lu’s project, “The Effect of Trehalose and Poly(lactic-co-glygolic acid) (PLGA) Microparticles on the Release Kinetics of Hydrophobic Drugs in Polyurethane Scaffold”, also won multiple awards at the event including several first place prizes with cash awards and the grand prize for best high school science project which includes a trip to Los Angeles to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair!

In addition, three SSMV sophomores groups were invited to present their research projects at the MNPS Project Expo at Trevecca Nazarene.  Each group presented their work and posters to three judges and, after a morning of careful selection, all three projects were selected for Gold Awards at the event.

Congratulations to:

Jenni, Saba, and Xiyua for their project, “Sequencing the GAPDH Gene in the Invasive Species Hedera helix and Ligustrum sinense to Map Phylogenetic Relationships”;

Lilly, David, Fea, and Jon Mark for their project, “Developing A Remote-Controlled Bot To Assist With First Responders In Combating House Fires”; and to

Vincent, Elom, and Eduardo for their project, “Comparison of Invasive Plants L. sinense and A. altissimaby Geneology.”

As a result of their success at the MNPS Expo, all three SSMV groups were invited to present at the Middle Tennessee STEM Expo in April.
