My name is Tori Brunetti, and I am a senior at Vanderbilt University studying Human and Organizational Development. As part of my capstone experience, I am working as a semester-long intern at MP&F Strategic Communications here in Nashville, Tennessee.
You may be wondering why I chose to spend my time working at a communications firm. To me, the answer is simple. I enjoy collaborating and working creatively with others. I thrive in fast-paced environments where I can constantly learn from others. I have always loved writing, and I jump at any chance to gain valuable experience to hone my skills and expand my interests. Also, I plan to enter the field of public relations and communications after I graduate in May. With all of this combined, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to gain such amazing hands-on experience with a great organization like MP&F!
The Firm
MP&F started as a small public relations consultancy in 1987. Since then, it has grown and evolved into a full-service strategic communications firm made up of a staff of over 70 employees who serve 133 clients. According to the organization’s official website, the firm’s mission is to “help [their] clients reach the right audiences with the right messages in order to create change and motivate action.” Working with clients in a variety of industries, such as health care and hospitality, MP&F boasts over 667 awards for its outstanding industry work.
In addition, the organization’s motto is “do great work, have fun, make money.” This completely captures MP&F’s culture. It is evident that every single employee is completely committed to going above and beyond for each and every client. The workplace is efficient, ever-changing, and filled with high energy, but even in the midst of all of the hard work, the employees do not lose their sense of fun. You can tell that the employees not only love what they do, but they also love where they work. I mean, with themed staff retreats, food-filled birthday celebrations, and a general sense of team camaraderie present throughout the entire organization, who wouldn’t want to work there?
My Focus
In the world of public relations, there are so many different areas of focus. For me, I have always been fascinated about branding. How do you craft a brand, how does a company attempt a rebrand, and how do you know if a brand is succeeding? These are all questions that have run through my mind. So, what better opportunity to learn more about this than to be surrounded by people with extensive experience in various aspects of branding? The following blogs recap the top branding lessons I have learned through research and informational interviews, and I also begin to think through how I would craft my own personal brand by applying everything I have learned throughout the semester. I took the “learn by doing” approach to heart, and it has been a great experience!
I hope you enjoy reading along and learning with me!
Sincerely,
Tori Brunetti
