David Ransohoff, MD
2014 Guest Speaker

David Ransohoff is an internist (gastroenterology, University of Chicago) and clinical epidemiologist (Yale) with longstanding interest in improving the methods used to evaluate diagnostic tests, particularly for screening. In 1978, he and clinical epidemiology mentor Alvan Feinstein wrote a NEJM paper that helped establish the field of methods to evaluate diagnostic tests. After studying conventional tests for cancer and other diseases, 15 years ago he extended his work to include molecular tests after being introduced to this area by EXACT Sciences (stool-based DNA markers for colon cancer; NEJM, 2004, 2014) and by a sabbatical with NCI.  He has also studied   blood-based markers (DNA, proteomics) for colon and ovarian cancer screening. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Ransohoff has directed faculty development programs including the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and the NIH-supported K30 program in translational research, now in the CTSA. He was also the inaugural speaker for NIH’s “Mind the Gap” seminar series. He currently works closely with staff and investigators at NCI on topics related to molecular markers for cancer screening.
