Description:
Dr. Jeannette Mancilla-Martinez, associate professor of literacy, language and culture in the Department of Teaching & Learning, is seeking undergraduate Research Assistants (RAs) for Fall 2017 to assist with studies that investigate language and literacy development in Spanish/English bilingual elementary school students and teacher-student interactions with Spanish/English bilingual pre-school students. Experience with transcription and working in classroom settings is preferred, but not required given that full training will be provided. The position will provide students with experience working in a research lab collecting, coding, and analyzing data.

Students looking to gain research experience and who have an interest in one or more of the topics of the research (e.g., English language learners, bilingualism, early childhood education, elementary education, language and literacy development, teacher and/or child speech) are encouraged to apply. Full Spanish and English proficiency (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, and writing) is strongly preferred, but not required. This position is not paid as it is for course credit (3 credit hours = 9 hours per week). RAs must have availability at least 2-3 days a week, but hours are flexible.

To apply, please email Janna McClain, mailto:janna.mcclain@vanderbilt.edu with a copy of your resume, qualifications, and a brief explanation of your interest in the project. Applications will be considered immediately, until the positions are filled.
