Spring 2018 Research in Gamified Assessments with Amanda Godwin

Posted by on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Uncategorized.

We are going to be collecting data during Spring 2018 on my IES grant project.  We have created a gamified language and literacy assessment called Monster, PI where students have to hunt down a Monster who is wreaking havoc on the city.  As part of their detective work, they solve puzzles (items).  We work with 5th-8th graders in 5 schools throughout Nashville ranging from close by to out in Antioch.  Last year, kids really liked the game and this year, we expect it to be even better.

We are looking for students who would want to help with data collection.  We pay undergraduates $12.50/hr and Master’s students $16.73/hr.  We can also arrange participation for credit if students prefer (independent study 3 credits=9 hours per week).
Students will need to have availability at least 1 full day or 2 half days per week.  Students will be leading and supporting assessment sessions, which involves distributing ipads, giving directions, monitoring behavior, and collecting/organizing materials.  Data collection will last from Feb 15-April 15 with additional in office tasks before and after.

If your students are interested in an exciting and fun research opportunity, they should contact me: Amanda Goodwin (Amanda.goodwin@Vanderbilt.edu).  They should provide their experiences leading groups of children and researching.  They should also provide what days/half days they will be free in Spring 2018 and how many hours they would like to work.  Access to a car is preferred, but not required, so they should note whether they have access to a car.  They should send information in a timely fashion as we want to try to get as much of the hiring set as possible given the move to SkyVU.
