Dr. Muench is a multidisciplinary health services researcher at the intersection of nursing, health policy, and health care economics. Her work seeks to understand and improve effectiveness, efficiency, and equity in health care. Applying primarily quantitative methods, she draws on methodologies from Economics, Sociology, and Political Science.

Beyond health care workforce, her research interests include provider behaviors and incentives, health care labor market outcomes, quality of care, gender inequality in the workplace, comparative health care systems, and quantitative methods.

She was recently awarded funding ($238,000) from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to study the prescribing practices of nurse practitioners and physicians providing services to Medicare beneficiaries.

Dr. Muench trained as a nurse in the UK and as a nurse practitioner in the United States. She holds degrees from Yale, Cambridge University, and the University of London.
