Green. If you&#8217;re watching Ken Burns&#8217;s <em>Country Music<\/em>, then you&#8217;ve seen Douglas B. Green sharing his wealth of knowledge about the Singing Cowboy tradition in country music.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Green\u2014also known as Ranger Doug from the Grammy Award\u2013winning group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ridersinthesky.com\">Riders In The Sky<\/a>\u2014is uniquely suited to write the story of the singing cowboy, both as a performer and as a collector of information and interviews on western music, films, and entertainers for much of his life.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">In <em>Singing in the Saddle<\/em>, which the\u00a0<em>Los Angeles Times Book Review<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-2003-jan-05-bk-kirsch5-story.html\">praised<\/a> as a &#8220;lively account of the singing cowboy as both a show-business phenomenon and an icon of American popular culture,&#8221; Green traces this history from the early days of vaudeville and radio, through the heyday of movie westerns before World War II, to the more recent revival.
