Coach White

Vanderbilt’s new women’s head basketball coach, Stephanie White, gave an inspiring presentation at the December 2016 USAC meeting. She outlined her approach to coaching and her focus on teamwork, incremental improvement and paths to outcomes rather than outcomes themselves. Among other things, she talked about having each of her players keep a daily “what you did well today” journal.

“Every day we want to get 1% better. Every day we want to be better today than we were yesterday. It’s a growth process and we’re going to be patient with that process.”

White was joined by her assistant head coach, Carolyn Peck, who is also a former Commodore basketball star. Peck led the team as interim head coach while White was finishing her second season as head coach of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

White’s vision of the future includes a women’s basketball team that is truly engaged with the Vanderbilt — and Nashville — community and that is accessible and transparent.
