Health Plus Much More Than Just Go for the Gold

Posted by on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in Archive, News.

Most Vanderbilt employees know about Go for the Gold — the annual three-step program designed to help employees identify health risks and take action to reduce those risks while receiving a Wellness Credit of up to $240 — but they may not be aware of the many other services that Health Plus provides.

Health Plus is one of three departments under Vanderbilt Health & Wellness and focuses its efforts on the following initiatives:

  • Education and awareness
  • Risk reduction
  • Environmental enhancements

Brad Awalt, Health Plus Manager, spoke to USAC at its April 2016 meeting to highlight some of these services — many of which can be performed onsite at schools and departments around campus:

Start! Physical Activity Program

Participants can log their physical activity daily or weekly and (optionally) sync their log to fitness wearables and apps such as Fitbit, Garmin and MapMyRun. Learn more.

Wellness Coaching

Wellness Coaches support Vanderbilt staff who are interested in losing weight, getting physically active, quitting smoking, or achieving other wellness goals. Learn more.

Know Your Numbers

Blood pressure, weight, and body mass index are measured so that participants can be more aware of their current state of health and learn how to reduce risk. Learn more.

Nutrition Programs

Programs such as CORE Nutrition, TASTE, and Healthy Bites help staff improve their diet in practical and achievable ways.

Health Plus also offers many other programs for university staff including Diabetes Awareness and Prevention, Babies and You (prenatal education) and Yoga Breaks.
