How long have you been a Vanderbilt employee?

3 years going into my fourth year.

How long have you been a part of USAC and how has it impacted you?

I have been a part of USAC for 2 years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to network

with many amazing individuals and advocate for my peers. It has been incredibly valuable to see

the HR department address the concerns and ideas voiced by USAC.

What has been your career journey to lead you to where you are today?

My career journey began in high school when I was part of Upward Bound. In undergrad, I

became a Resident Assistant, and in graduate school, I advanced to an Assistant Resident

Director. Each of these experiences solidified my passion for student affairs. The connections I’ve

made and the students I’ve had the opportunity to support have enriched my journey immensely,

making it even more rewarding.

What do you enjoy most about Vanderbilt? (i.e. missions, benefits, views of sustainability,

community, etc.)?

I truly enjoy the community at Vanderbilt. The university has been instrumental in helping me

cultivate my professional identity and has created a supportive space for continuous learning. I

have particularly appreciated the strong connections I’ve formed and the opportunity to work

with the amazing people who continue to join our team. This sense of community, combined with

a commitment to personal and professional growth, makes Vanderbilt a truly special place for

me.

What is the greatest bit of advice a parent or mentor has given you?

Change is the only consistency- For me this meant to be adaptable, open-minded, and committed

to evolving in the ever-changing environment.

What is one important skill every person should have?

Intentional Communication

What is the best perk you have ever had at a job?

Flexible work schedule

Do you feel like you have a good work/life balance?

Yes, I do.

What do you enjoy doing to relieve stress?

Working out, being a potato, or eating some butter pecan

Are you more productive at night or in the morning? Do you think it is possible to change and get used to a new schedule?

I am most productive early morning and late evening. I do think it is possible to change and get

used to a new schedule.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A Psychiatrist

What is your favorite type of music?

Alternative R&B- think Melody by Durand Bernarr

What has been your favorite vacation you have ever been on?

Dominica in the Summer of 2023. I took my best friend to the Caribbean for my family reunion. It

was her first time going out of the country, and we had so much fun mingling with my family and

eating amazing food.

What are you most proud of in your life thus far?

Obtaining my Master of Social Work Licensure

Name two things you consider yourself to be good at.

Relationship building and crisis management.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Long walks with my Dog (Babby D, follow on Instagram @BabyD_Mara)

What is something on your bucket list?

Bungee Jumping
