USAC Meet a Member: Jenny Abrams
What department do you work in and what is your job title?
I am a program coordinator in the marketing communications department at Peabody College.
How long have you been a Vanderbilt employee?
I’ve worked at Vanderbilt for two years.
How long have you been a part of USAC and how has it impacted you?
I’ve been involved in USAC for one year.
What has been your career journey to lead you to where you are today?
Prior to joining Vanderbilt, I worked as a licensed clinical social worker for 16 years before transitioning to owning my professional organizing business. After seven years as a business owner, I realized that I enjoyed working on the business more than in the business. More specifically, my passion became strategic planning and marketing over organizing and therefore I transitioned into a role at Vanderbilt where I could use my organizing and project management skills in a role that involved planning and marketing.
What is one important skill every person should have?
One important skill I think everyone should have – or learn – is time management. Fortunately, I have found a time management system that works for my family and me that allows for a wonderful work life balance. I am very intentional about how I spend my time. I’m an early riser and really value quiet time in the morning to focus on my goals and intentions for the day. If anyone wants tips in organization or time management, I’m happy to have a conversation!
What is the best perk you have ever had at a job?
The best perk I’ve had at a job is free entry into the Disney World parks! I worked as a Disney character and on days off, I’d frequently go to the parks with family and friends, even for just for a few hours or the afternoon! That was an amazing experience and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity.
What are you most proud of in your life thus far?
I’m most proud of my sense of adventure, my willingness to try to things, my relationship with friends and family, and of course I’m most proud of my two beautiful children!
What is your favorite outdoor activity?
My favorite way to spend a day is to be outside in nature, walking, biking, or hiking. I just learned the basics of paddle boarding and I’d love to practice that more.
What is something on your bucket list?
I’m not a materialistic person, and instead value experiences. Everything on my bucket list are places that I want to travel to and experiences I want to have in those places. One travel destination that I can’t wait to experience is Belgium and I want to go in the spring so I can see all the tulips in bloom!
