What department do you work in and what is your job title?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a CSO (Community Service Officer) with VUPD.<\/p>\n

How long have you been a Vanderbilt employee?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I started as a third party contract employee via AlliedBarton in 2011. I joined VUPD in 2014.<\/p>\n

What has been your career journey to lead you to where you are today?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I retired from the radio industry in 2010. I started training in radio when I was 12, so I had plenty time to explore another career after I retired. My second career interest was law enforcement. I didn\u2019t actually want to be a police officer though. I wanted a position with less paperwork and definitely not so much running. VUPD\u2019s CSO program was a perfect fit.<\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about Vanderbilt? (i.e. missions, benefits, views of sustainability, community, etc.)?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I appreciate the diversity represented within our staff, faculty and students. The acceptance of all walks of life, for the most part, makes Vanderbilt a great place to work and learn about other cultures and ways of life.<\/p>\n

What did you want to be when you grew up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I knew when I was 10 years old I wanted to be on the radio. So I sang and my Mom, honest as honest could be, let me know I would have to be a disc jockey. So that was my dream. I did that for 30 years.<\/p>\n

If you could visit any country with no budget, where would you visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia. I have a fascination with Australia. I go to Kentucky Down Under sometimes just to play with the kangaroos because it is a lot cheaper than going Down Under. That is actually about the only other country I want to go visit. It would be perfect if I could live there during our winter.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite type of music?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I learned in my radio career there are only two types of music, good and bad. I prefer the good.<\/p>\n

What has been your favorite vacation you have ever been on?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Los Angeles was amazing. It wasn\u2019t actually a vacation, but a working trip that I extended into a vacation. The radio company I was working with at the time was up for two awards and I got to go to LA to represent. I got to walk the red carpet on Sunset Blvd. Both stations won and I got to go on stage and do the acceptance speech. It was so fun. I had an apartment for the week in West Hollywood. I also almost got in trouble with LAPD for stepping a foot on Meg Ryan\u2019s driveway getting a picture.<\/p>\n

What are you most proud of in your life thus far? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The fact that both my children grew-up to be amazing beings. They are amazing parents themselves and produced the best grandsons (7th<\/sup> is due in May) I could have ever dreamed of having<\/p>\n

When I was 10, I said I am going to live in Nashville one day\u2026.<\/p>\n
