Valor Tech

Our Vision

The three main components of the model include a uterus, cervix, and hysteroscope. This illustrates a non-virtual environment which can provide haptic feedback. The inside of the uterus can be modified to measure different aspects of a surgeon's competence.

Hysteroscopy is a branch of laparoscopic surgery that plays a major role in OBGYN practice. Complications in hysteroscopic surgery such as perforation of the uterine wall, fluid overload syndrome, and intra-operative hemorrhaging can lead to patient pain and extended hospital stays.  The complications are often due to a lack of substantial training that contains no metric for success.  All current training simulators are virtual an do not adequately represent the intrauterine surgical environment.  In addition, virtual training simulators often cost tens of thousands of dollars which makes them inaccessible to the average hospital and restricts the use by residents. Our design team has identified and defined the major needs for:

  • benchmarks for success and improvement
  • represents the size, shape, and restrictions of the uterine environment
  • modular components that can be manipulated to test different skills associated with hysteroscopic surgery
  • low cost in comparison to existing virtual simulators

Above is a vision for our design. The steps that have already been completed are outlined in our Gantt chart. Check out our team members to find out how their individual skills will contribute to the success of this project.
