ANTHONY KIM

is a first year cello performance major from Phoenix, Arizona. He began studying the cello at age of nine with Jan Simiz, assistant principal cellist of the Phoenix Symphony. He has won top prizes at numerous string competitions, including Music Teachers’ National Association, Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Competition, Phoenix Youth Symphony Young Musicians Competition, Bellegrande International Music Competition, and OPUS Competition. He participated in the AMEA Regionals and All-State Orchestras for all four years of high school and held principal positions in both Regionals and All-State and the Phoenix Youth Symphony. Throughout the summers, Anthony has attended numerous music festivals such as the Heifetz International Music Institute, Vivace International Music Festival, Encore Chamber Music Institute, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Over the years, he has had the opportunity to study with and play in masterclasses for Zlatomir Fung, Natasha Brofsky, Colin Carr, David Ying, and Hans Jorgen Jensen. Anthony is also an avid pianist, having won multiple awards, including first prize in the Steinway Avanti Piano Competition and Music Teachers’ National Association State Competition. Besides music, he enjoys eating good food, playing badminton, and traveling to new places.
