Exploring the Mechanisms of Craniofacial Development

A craniofacial disorder refers to an abnormality of the face and/or the head. Craniofacial differences can result from abnormal growth patterns of the face or skull, which involves soft tissue and bones. A craniofacial abnormality can be caused by a birth defect, disease or trauma. Craniofacial surgery is a type of plastic surgery that repairs these abnormalities. Craniofacial surgeons are specially trained to work with bone, skin, muscle, teeth and more. Craniofacial surgery does not include surgery of the brain or eye.

This website will explore the mechanisms of craniofacial development.
