In recently published work, she and her first co-author, Ryan Nolen, a former Ph.D. student working in the Caldwell Lab, realized a simple and cost-effective platform for achieving tunable, highly emissive, narrowband thermal emitters. They then show how these emitters are suitable plug-and-play replacements in conventional, filtered, nondispersive infrared gas sensing devices by providing a proof-of-concept for CO<\/span><sub><span style=\"font-size: 6.5pt;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;color: black\">2 <\/span><\/sub><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;color: black\">gas sensing showing similar sensitivity to the conventional blackbody\/filter combination.
