The spring 2022\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/rds\/internal-funding-programs\/seeding-success-grant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seeding Success Grants<\/a>\u00a0are the second cycle of the internal early investment funding initiative. The grants, awarded to faculty spanning the university\u2019s disciplines and schools, are available to all full-time VU faculty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Seeding Success Grants offer us a great strategy to further faculty innovation and scholarship as we continue to catapult Vanderbilt\u2019s research reputation forward as a highest-caliber university. Vice Provost for Research Padma Raghavan plays such a key leadership role as we dedicate new resources and support for faculty research through funding programs like this one,\u201d Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs C. Cybele Raver said. \u201cI congratulate the faculty who received this year\u2019s awards and look forward to learning more about their groundbreaking discoveries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of Seeding Success Grants for the spring 2022 cycle are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Christopher Candelaria<\/b>, assistant professor of public policy and education, Peabody College, for \u201cLocal Impacts of Washington\u2019s McCleary Fix: A Study of Residential Sorting and Housing Markets\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Marcelo Disconzi<\/b>, associate professor of mathematics, College of Arts and Science, for \u201cNeutron Star Mergers at the Intersection of Mathematics and Physics\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Martin Egli<\/b>, professor of biochemistry, School of Medicine Basic Sciences, for \u201cMicrocrystal Electron Diffraction (MicroEd) of RNA and RNA-Protein Interactions\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Todd Giorgio<\/b>, professor of biomedical engineering, School of Engineering, for \u201cBiomaterials to Prevent Preterm Birth\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Alfredo Gurrola<\/b>, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, College of Arts and Science, for \u201cUnveiling New Forms of Composite Matter from a New Force of Nature\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>David Hyde<\/b>, assistant professor of computer science, School of Engineering, for \u201cAdvanced Cloud-based Data- and Visualization-integrated Simulation EnviRonment (ADVISER) for Ice Flow and Fracture Modeling\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Jonathan Lane<\/b>, assistant professor of psychology and human development, Peabody College, for \u201cChildren\u2019s Detection of Social Bias\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Ethan Lee<\/b>, professor of cell and developmental biology, School of Medicine Basic Sciences, for \u201cDevelopment of Kras Inhibitors that Target a Newly Identified Protein Packet\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Mulubrhan Mogos<\/b>, assistant professor of nursing, School of Nursing, for \u201cPathogenic Memory T-cells as Potential Therapeutic Targets for Preeclampsia\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Jeremy Neal<\/b>, assistant professor of nursing, School of Nursing, for \u201cDifferences in Labor-associated Inflammation Following Spontaneous Labor Onset Among Low-risk Black and White Nulliparous Women\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Robert Pitz<\/b>, professor of mechanical engineering, School of Engineering, for \u201cStudy of Carbon-free Ammonia-air Flames in Tubular Burner\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Yi Ren<\/b>, assistant professor of biochemistry, School of Medicine Basic Sciences, for \u201cChaperone-mediated Regulation of PIKK Stability and Function\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Jenny Schafer<\/b>, research associate professor of cell and developmental biology, School of Medicine Basic Sciences, for \u201cUpgrades to the Cell Imaging Shared Resource (CISR) Zeiss Z1 Lightsheet Microscope to Increase Imaging Capabilities and Sample Compatibility\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Lori Schirle<\/b>, assistant professor of nursing, School of Nursing, for \u201cThe Feasibility of Incorporating Pain Sensitivity Testing into Total Knee Replacement Workflow\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted that these 14 distinguished faculty members will receive Seeding Success Grants to undertake ambitious new directions in their research, and I look forward to seeing them amplify the\u00a0impact of their work with external funding in future,\u201d said Raghavan, whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.vanderbilt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">office<\/a>\u00a0has administered the program since its move from the Office of the Provost last year. \u201cI am grateful to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/rds\/internal-funding-programs\/seeding-success-grant\/seeding-success-reviewers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seeding Success Review Committee<\/a>\u00a0for their insights to select these worthy recipients out of the 37 highly competitive applications we received this cycle, and to our program coordinator, Charlotte Forstall, who stepped up to administer the program following its move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the next cycle of Seeding Success Grants will be due on Sept. 7, 2022.
