Cummings<\/a>, the John R. Hall Professor of Chemical Engineering, emeritus, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>In an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nae.edu\/289843\/NAENewClass2023\">announcement<\/a>\u00a0released February 7, 2023, the Academy cited Cummings for his \u201csimulation-based solutions to chemical engineering problems, and for innovations and leadership in modeling and computational nanoscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cummings spent 20 years at Vanderbilt as a faculty member and administrator for the School of Engineering before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.vanderbilt.edu\/news\/2022\/eminent-chemical-engineering-professor-peter-cummings-retires-from-vanderbilt\/\">retiring in the fall of 2022<\/a>. His work has made a significant impact on the field, resulting in numerous publications, patents, and innovations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis recognition is most well-deserved,\u201d said Philippe Fauchet, the Bruce and Bridgitt Evans Dean of Engineering. \u201cPeter\u2019s contributions to the field of engineering and his dedication to education are a testament to his exceptional work as a researcher and his commitment to advancing the discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Academy of Engineering is a highly selective organization that recognizes the most outstanding engineers in the world.
