VUMC IT to change out Juniper VUH-SRX (Guardian) Cluster

Posted by on Monday, December 5, 2016 in Outage.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 5:00 a.m., VUMC IT will implement change C0074001 https://pegasus.mc.vanderbilt.edu/ViewChange.aspx?id=C0074001; changing out the legacy Juniper VUH-SRX (Guardian) firewall.  This change will cause a five-minute service interruption between 6:30 a.m. and 6:35 a.m. to all applications and databases that reside within the Juniper environment while it is switched out.  During the service interruption, users may experience an inability to log-in to some systems. In some cases, data may require re-entry.

Affected groups must ensure that testers are available to verify reachability and functionality of the applications and services they support after the change is complete.  A testing conference call has been established for users to obtain progress updates and technical assistance.

Call information:

  • The testing bridge will begin at 5:30 a.m. and will last until 11:00 a.m.
  • Call (615) 343-6048 to join.
  • Request the “Juniper Firewall” conference bridge.
  • Testers are not required to join the testing conference bridge; however, VUMC IT strongly recommends that all application/device owners test reachability, application functionality, and any Juniper related router dependencies immediately after the change is complete.
