Windows 8 Activation Issue

Posted by on Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Blog.

This alert applies to volume-licensed copies of Windows 8 (i.e. the version of Windows 8 available through the Software Store (http://softwarestore.vanderbilt.edu) under the “Departments” tab).

Here is a summary of the problem:

If a user:

• Has Office 2010 or later on a system running Windows 8
• Used the ITS KMS server to activate
• Disconnects his computer from the Vanderbilt network

Windows will notify the user that he needs to activate.

You can fix the problem by installing the Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 cumulative update 2822241. This update is installed automatically if you select the Install updates automatically (recommended) Windows Update setting. If you selected another Windows Update setting, you can manually install the update through Windows Update.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2823243 for additional information.
