Vanderbilt participates in the IBM SPSS Academic New Deal program.  We purchase an annual subscription to IBM Statistics Premium Campus Edition through the New Deal.  Our annual subscription runs from August 1 through July 31.  Vanderbilt uses SPSS across the enterprise for teaching, learning, and academic research.

IBM offers a no-cost SPSS Mining in Academic Program (MAP) membership to New Deal participants.  MAP provides access to IBM SPSS Modeler Premium data and text mining software for classroom teaching and non-commercial research.  IBM charges $7,000 per user for an annual subscription to SPSS Modeler Premium.  MAP provides access to this product for $0.

Vanderbilt signed a MAP agreement with IBM on August 27, 2013.  Our MAP subscription runs through August 31, 2014.  IBM approved our using MAP software in two courses, Biostatistics I, which begins September 3, and Biostatistics II, which begins February 3.  Vanderbilt offers these courses through its Master of Science in Clinical Investigations (MSCI) program. MSCI faculty expect 15-25 students to participate in each course. Each student will use MAP software for completing a unique research project.
