Upcoming deprecation of 3-year certificates

Posted by on Friday, January 19, 2018 in News.

The CA/Browser Forum, a widely recognized authority on baseline requirements for certificate and browser rules, recently approved Ballot 193.  Ballot 193 reduces the maximum validity period for Security Socket Layer (SSL) certificates from three years to two years.

This change improves Internet security by requiring administrators to renew and verify their certificates more often.  Existing three-year certificates will continue to work for the remainder of the certificate’s term.

If you must reissue your certificate for any reason after February 20, 2018, you will receive a replacement certificate with the remaining term left on the original certificate, or 825 days maximum. The 825-day maximum is a requirement of Ballot 193.
