Hi!  My name is Xi Chen, and I am a current graduate student at Vanderbilt University studying International Education Policy and Management.  If you are interested in the intersection of education policy and law, you are in the right place!  Some of my other interests include: education technology, gender equality, student achievement, and teacher professional development.

For my undergrad, I graduated from Renmin University of China and majored in Agricultural Economy and Management,  where I gained a lot of field research experience in rural China. My father always warns me that “never overvalue yourself as a college student, you are rooted in rural China and be humble to learn from the farmers”. It not only helps me to find and examine many social problems in rural China by using social science research methods, but also help me to understand how to “seek truth from the facts” and appreciate the land that I grow up in.

Before going to Vanderbilt, I worked at Save the Children, Ministry of Education of China and China Education Daily as an intern, where I found education equity issue can be solved from a comparative perspective and through inter-disciplinary methods. After one-year study, I strengthened my skills in data analysis, and had a further comprehension of education policy topics in US and some developing countries. And I worked at Metro Nashville Public Schools this summer to strengthen my hands-on skills.
