Xiang Zhang

I have been a Ph.D. student (08/2012-09/2017) and a postdoctoral research associate (09/2017-01/2018) in Multiscale Computational Mechanics Laboratory led by Prof. Caglar Oskay in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University. I am currently a postdoctoral research associate working with Prof. Philippe Geubelle at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I am interested in multiscale modeling of deformation and damage in heterogeneous materials for material design and manufacgturing. my specific research interests include but are not limited to:

  • Multiscale modeling of heterogeneous materials
    • Eigenstrain-based reduced order homogenization for microstructure-informed structural scale modeling
    • Crystal plasticity finite element modeling in conjunction with cohesive zone modeling for defamation and damage in metals and alloys
    • Interface-GFEM based transverse failure modeling in carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites
  • Modeling of rapid frontal polymerization for the manufacturing of reinforced polymer composites
  • Gradient-based optimization for microstructure design

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested in my research.
