Goals for Crucial Conversations

Posted by on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in News.

As many of you know, these past couple of months have been about vision, reflecting on what we learned last year to move forward this next year. At our first June meeting, the team came together (students and faculty that have been involved) to discuss the broader narrative of what it would look and feel like to be at the ideal Peabody, in relation to the issues we’re addressing. At the second meeting, we took these narrative points and generated specific goals that will help us get there.

Below are these four goals:

  1. Integrate issues of diversity, power, equity, and inclusion into curricula and classroom experiences across departments and disciplines.
  2. Establish sustainable system of formalized administrative support specifically to facilitate diversity initiatives and keep all stakeholders accountable.
  3. Increase the racial diversity of faculty and students on Peabody’s campus and demonstrate a consistent commitment to making strides in this area.
  4. Reorganize Peabody orientation and shape student mentorship to support ongoing dialogue about diversity and student experiences.

Your feedback is welcome, and we look forward to next steps. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.

EDIT 10/3/2014: This last goal has since been slightly re-worded to include other types of extracurricular activities.
