Ferguson Response at Vanderbilt

Posted by on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in News.

On September 8th, the NAACP, BSA, and Kappas are sponsoring a forum: “Black Lives Matter.” The flyer is here. Please email Dr. Frank Dobson (frank.dobson@vanderbilt.edu) if you have any questions about these events.

Also, the program in African American and Diaspora Studies will be holding a 3-part series on Activism and Social Justice in “post-racial” America. The first is scheduled for September 10th in Buttrick Hall 101 at 4:10pm. Panelists (thus far) include: Dr. David Ikard (Professor, University of Miami, Author of “Nation of Cowards: Black Activism in Barack Obama’s Post-Racial America”), Dr. Paul Lim (Professor of Religious Studies and History & Chair, faculty senate), and Dr. Donna Ford (Professor of Special Education & Teaching & Learning), and will be moderated by Dr. Tiffany Patterson (Professor of AADS and History). Dr. Gilman Whiting (g.whiting@vanderbilt.edu) is the contact for this event.

We know this has been a hard period for many and would also like to mention that the Psychological and Counseling Center (https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/pcc/) is a resource here to serve you.

Stay safe and healthy, and please take care of yourselves.
Peace,
Richard
