Contest Rules

1. All current students, faculty, staff and visiting scholars at Vanderbilt University are eligible to participate, except for faculty and staff directly involved in the organization of the competition.

2. ONE entry per participant.

3. Photographs must be:

a) the original work of the participant
b) taken in Latin America or the Caribbean
c) submitted electronically via online submission form

4. Each electronic entry must include:

a) Picture Title
b) Photographer’s name
c) Vanderbilt e-mail address

5. Deadline:
The final date for submitting photos is Friday, December 1 at 5:00 p.m.

6. By signing the entry form and submitting it, entrants are agreeing to grant Vanderbilt University, Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies (CLACX) use of the photographs in displays related to the contest and in other printed and electronic publications. Efforts will be made to credit the entrant where possible.

7. Judges will be chosen from the Vanderbilt community.

8. Entries will be judged on artistic expression, creativity, originality, and the quality of the image. All decisions of the judges are final. The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries which do not conform to the stated contest rules and criteria.

9. Winners will be announced at a award ceremony on Thursday, January 20. Photographs may be displayed in additional locations at future events.

LEGAL CONDITIONS: By entering this competition, you agree to these entry rules and the following legal conditions:

By entering, each participant warrants that his or her entry materials are original, do not infringe on any third party’s rights, and that participant has obtained any necessary permissions from any third party if a third party or third party’s property appears in the photograph. Latin American Images Photography Competition Organizers (LAIPCO) reserve the right to disqualify any entry if they find in their sole discretion that any of the foregoing warranties are not true. Decisions of LAIPC shall be final and binding.

The LAIPCO are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions to the LAIPC, including but not limited to any misprints or typographical errors. The LAIPCO assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, photographs.

All federal, state, and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prize packages are the sole responsibility of the winners. Winners may be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Prize Acceptance Form. Return of any prize and/or prize notification as undeliverable or failure of any entrant to comply with any Official Rules may result in disqualification.
