Musical Settings of Michelangelo’s Letters and Verse
Fire and Ice: Michelangelo the Writer (excerpts)
(performed by Carl Smith and various guest artists)
Excerpts from the complete masque of the same name.
Set My Heart Aright: A Michelangelo Portrait
(performed by Blair School of Music students and faculty, Carl Smith conducting)
Settings for men’s chorus and chamber orchestra of sacred and secular poems by Michelangelo.
God of Creation
(performed by the choir of the Church of St. Michael and St. George (St. Louis) at Westminster Abbey, London, Edward A. Wallace conducting)
This unaccompanied choral composition is a setting of a poem by St. Ambrose of Milan. While its text is not by Michelangelo, the composition was inspired by my work with his verse, so similar are his thoughts on the fleeting nature of time and the immutability of God to those of Ambrose.
