Andy Finch, Paul Moberg, and Emily Hennessy presented in a 3-paper symposium entitled “Recovery High Schools as Continuing Care for Adolescents” at the 28th Annual Research and Policy Conference on Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult Behavioral Health in March 2015. The symposium included information on recovery high schools (Andy Finch), preliminary 6-month study outcomes (Emily Hennessy and Emily Tanner-Smith), and plans for cost-benefit analysis of the data in the future (Paul Moberg, David Weimer, and Stephanie Lindsley).

2014

This special issue entitled “Substance Abuse Recovery and Schooling: The Role of Recovery High Schools and Collegiate Recovery Communities” was published in the Peabody Journal of Education in 2014 (Volume 89, Issue 2). Articles are also available for download here (depending on your institution/library access to the journal).

This poster entitled “Accessing recovery: An ecological analysis of barriers and opportunities for adolescents through recovery high schools” was presented by Holly Karakos (in conjunction with Andy Finch and Emily Fisher) at the 2014 biennial meeting of the Society for Research on Adolescence in Austin, Texas.  This poster examines the possible contributors to and solutions to address racial disparities evidenced in recovery high schools.

Recovery High Schools: Innovative Schools Supporting Recovery from Substance Abuse” was presented by Emily Tanner-Smith (in conjunction with Andy Finch, Paul Moberg, and Holly Karakos) at the American Educational Research Association 2014 annual meeting.  This presentation describes the study and presents some very preliminary results.

2013
“Recovery High Schools: What the Current Research Is Telling Us” was presented by Paul Moberg and Andrew Finch at the Association of Recovery Schools 2013 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA.  The presentation describes some preliminary results from the study’s initial data collection. The poster entitled “Preventing academic failure and substance use relapse through recovery high schools,” was presented by Paul Moberg at the 2013 annual meeting of the Society for Prevention Research in San Francisco, CA.  The presentation describes the study’s design and reports some preliminary findings.

This poster, entitled “Peer support as a mechanism for relapse prevention among adolescents in recovery” was presented by Holly Wegman at the 2013 annual meeting of the Society for Prevention Research in San Francisco, CA.  The presentation is based on interviews conducted with recovery school staff and reviews staff attitudes toward peer support at the recovery schools.

2012 and prior
“Recovery High Schools: Opportunities for Support and Personal Growth for Students in Recovery” by Andrew Finch and Holly Wegman was part of a special issue of the Prevention Researcher (Volume 19, Supplement 2012) and is available online.

Effectiveness of Recovery High Schools as Continuing Care – An Introduction to the Study was presented at the 2012 Joint Meeting on Adolescent Treatment Effectiveness (JMATE) conference April 10-12 in Washington, DC.

Recovery High Schools and Adolescent Continuing Care: Program Characteristics and Empirical Findings was presented at the 2010 Joint Meeting on Adolescent Treatment Effectiveness (JMATE) conference December 15th in Washington, DC.

This special issue on Recovery Schools was published in the Journal of Groups in Addiction & Recovery during October of 2008.
