2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal

This is a TIME article about Ray Kurzweil and his theory about artificial intelligence and technological singularity. Kurzweil first dabbled in the field of AI when he was 17 and developed a computer that could compose a musical piece. His invention illustrated that it is possible for an inorganic entity to produce a creative work of art. This was such a big deal because it showed that self-expression is not just a human ability. The article then goes on to talk about what Kurzweil thinks will happen by the year 2045.  Kurzweil and many other scientists believe that computers are advanced at a much faster rate then in years past. So, they think that before too long, computers and humans will merge. Much like cars and airplanes expand our physical capabilities, maybe these AI’s can expand human’s mental capabilities, creating a version of a cyborg, kind of like the ones we saw in Ghost in the Shell.
