Adapt-SL Team Returns from Sri Lanka

The Adapt-SL team recently returned from a two week trip to Sri Lanka. For many team members, it was their first experience in the country. The beginning of the trip was spent in the cities of Colombo and Peradeniya meeting with local contacts. These contacts described the current state of Sri Lankan agriculture, providing valuable insight into the local situation. They also discussed areas where Adapt-SL and local organizations can collaborate.
The team then traveled to several project sites. They interviewed farmers, collected water samples, and accumulated firsthand knowledge of the realities of the Mahaweli Watershed. These interactions answered some questions but raised many more, such as the previously unappreciated importance of human-elephant contact. Back stateside, the team will now work to ensure the final survey addresses issues that are relevant to both the research goals and the farmers’ local experience.
It was a very successful trip, but there is still a long way to go. Be sure to check back for periodic updates!
