July 12, 2013. Brennan Steele presented the poster “Tablet Technology to Improve Colonoscopy” by B. A. Steele, C. S. Bell, K. L. Obstein, P. Valdastri at the Student Research Symposium organized at Vanderbilt University by the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach. The organizing committee selected Brennan’s poster out of a total of 52 posters for the First Place Award. Brennan Steele is a high school student involved in doing research at the STORM Lab through the Research Experience for High School Students program of the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach. In particular, Brennan is developing a tablet application to improve the learning experience of medical students watching an expert endoscopist performing colonoscopy. Brennan’s app displays the images from the colonoscope directly on the tablet and allows the student to freeze a picture and highlight a lesion. This allows a rapid feedback from the expert endoscopist and a more effective learning for the student. Congratulations to Brennan for his strong work and to Charreau Bell for supervising Brennan on a daily basis.
