Fall

Secondary Mathematics Methods: 

Course for licensure candidates and students interested in research and secondary teaching. We unpack the state of secondary mathematics today and discuss issues of equity and justice in mathematics education.

Practicum in Secondary Methods: 

Course linked to teacher candidates’ work in schools. In this course, we partner with classroom teachers, visit teachers’ classrooms together, work on instructional routines, and begin our work in Video Club.

Introduction to Mathematical Literacies:

Course for education candidates across disciplines who are interested in examining issues of mathematical literacy in K-12 learning.

Spring

Building Your Toolkit: Planning and Assessment Strategies for Teaching:

Elective course for candidates across education degrees who are interested in planning and assessment strategies for teaching. Past students have come from across the SED, ELED, L&D, & ELL programs.

Seminar in Teaching Secondary Mathematics: 

Seminar course intended to support secondary mathematics teacher candidates in their full-time teaching placements. Our focus is on edTPA preparation, Video Club, and partnerships with teachers.

Mathematical Inquiry: 

M.Ed. course for Teaching Learning and Urban Studies students in which we examine teaching practice by engaging in mathematics together, Video Club, and student work analyses.

University Supervisor: 

Weekly visits to support secondary mathematics teacher candidates in their teaching placements. Focus is on supporting TCs to identify and set goals related to equitable, student-centered teaching.
