  • vummiv – the legacy unsecure network used for any device that does not authenticate with VUnetID and ePassword (Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, Apple TV, etc.)

Answers to other common questions regarding:

How do I set up my device on the wireless network?

Directions for how to set up your wireless device can be found at http://it.vanderbilt.edu/services/network/wireless/student-staff-faculty.php.

Am I allowed to use a mobile hotspot?

Personal wireless networks, including mobile hotspot devices, are forbidden on Vanderbilt’s campus and should not be used for any purpose.

How do I connect my wireless HP printer?

Some HP printers offer wireless services that interfere with the campus wireless network. To avoid this, all printers must have their wireless services turned off.

Can I have a non-VUIT managed wireless?

Non-VUIT wireless routers are forbidden on campus and should not be used for any purpose (unless approved by VUIT).

How many times do I need to use vuSetup?

The network vuSetup is strictly used to become connected to vuNet through the onboarding tool. This network will only be used once during the initial connection process.

I am having trouble onboarding my Apple device, what should I do?

There is a known issue with Apple devices wherein they cache wireless networks. In order to ensure that the device can be successfully onboarded, users must turn off the wireless and then delete any other Vanderbilt wireless networks, including vummiv, vuSetup and vuNet. Once users have deleted the other SSIDs, users should continue with the installation process. These steps are included in the onboarding directions at http://it.vanderbilt.edu/services/network/wireless/onboarding_iphone.php.

I’ve experienced difficulties using iMessage, where can I go for help?

iMessage problems experienced between Sept. 8 and Sept. 12 have been resolved. Some users may require assistance in order to fix an issue specific to their Mac, iPad or Apple ID. For assistance with your device, contact the VUIT Help Desk at 343-9999, visit the Tech Hub or submit a ticket.
