At Vanguard, we serve as the bridge between non-profit health systems and the strengths of a for-profit corporation.  In providing that bridge, we view our health systems as partners, and with partnership comes opportunity.  We offer our partners a broad spectrum of experience, from operations, contracting and finance to purchasing, human resources and community relations.

Sensitive to a hospital’s specific needs, we collaborate with the existing staff, remain dedicated to the community and invest in the hospital by providing resources and technology that improve the overall care patients receive. Furthermore, we respect the hospital’s autonomy and firmly believe in maintaining local authority.  This serves our partners well.  It serves Vanguard well.  Most importantly, though, it serves patients well.

Internship Projects

My internship was with the corporate Human Resource department of Vanguard Health Systems.  I gained experience in Organizational Development, Talent Management, Marketing, and Physician Communication by engaging in the following projects.

Instructional Design of Management Foundations (New Leader Orientation & Development Program): Created facilitator guides, powerpoints, workbooks, and case scenarios that covered finance, employment law, and union awareness topics. These modules were used in the New Leader Orientation & Development Program to provide managers with the additional tools and support needed to be highly effective leaders.

Vendor Analysis: Communicated with and interviewed assessment vendors for all hiring level needs.  Created an evaluation template to compare vendor offerings.

Employee Engagement Survey Analysis: Organized an Executive binder for the CEO that included employee engagement survey results by market.  Analyzed trends and developed market heat maps and favorability reports to illustrate engagement gaps.

Employee Engagement Action Planning Toolkit: (Action Planning Toolkit): Interviewed Human Resource directors and managers to gather input as to what they would like to see in the Vanguard’s Employee Engagement Action Planning Toolkit.  Using their feedback, I helped re-designed the Action Planning Toolkit to be more user friendly and effective.

Physician Communication: Developed a physician survey to gather non-clinical analogies for doctors and clinicians to use when communicating complex medical terms with patients.

Marketing Campaign Analytics: Using Customer Relationship Management software, I identified target populations that would most benefit from Vanguard’s health campaigns.
