Outreach

Many astronomers feel they should “give back” to the community and are also very excited about their research and about astronomy in general thus enjoy sharing the wonders of the Universe with others.

The Fisk-Vanderbilt Astronomy Roadshow Planetarium

This is personally my primary outreach instrument – I take it to a school a few times per month to spend the day there teaching students

Dyer Observatory

Astronomers give lectures, work the telescopes on public nights, provide “Ask-an-astronomer” answers during Public Open Houses

Speaking to groups

I help organize people to go to schools or other groups (senior citizens, scouts, etc.) to talk about their research or astronomy in general
