Analysis Overview

Our project offers a unique opportunity to understand experienced math teachers’ sensemaking about ambitious instruction in urban schools. Our data collection centers on our partner teachers, school-based teams of Master Teacher Fellows who have agreed to participate in our study as we make sense of the feedback process.

In all, we have partnered with 6 teacher teams over Phase 2 of the project, getting multiple opportunities to visit their schools, film their classrooms, and delve into the details of their teaching with them. We film our conversations about their teaching, which is a critical part of our data corpus, as this is where much of their sensemaking is revealed. Additionally, we shadow them during MfA LA professional development, interview them several times a year, and have many informal exchanges along the way. This rich data set has supported the many analyses detailed here.
